About this Event
At Qixi Fest 2023, we aim to revive and reimagine the beautiful Qixi Festival that our foremothers had brought to Singapore since the 19th century. Look forward to a variety of exciting events and workshops during the festival period from 7 July to 20 August!
"Make a Wish Magpie": Customise Your Crochet Plushie Workshop (No Experience Needed)
According to folklore, magpie birds form a bridge every year during Qixi Festival (the seventh day of the seventh lunar month) for stars separated across the Milky Way to reunite. Hence, the magpies symbolise “helping others accomplish their goals” (成人之美).
In Singapore, our foremothers formed collectives known as Milky Way Associations to celebrate the festival with public displays of intricate handicrafts. It is believed that when you showcase your skills through arts and handicrafts during the festival, your wishes will come true faster.
Come down to Qixi Fest and participate in our workshopto personalise your own crochet plushie magpie. You will be making these plushies in the premises of the historic Kong Chow Wui Koon, a building with nearly 100 years of history.
Workshops will be conducted by experienced crafters from Tiny Rabbit Hole.
