"In The Midst of Plenty" is a Folk Musical produced by Strokestown-based Enchanted Croi Theatre. Running at the National Famine Museum at Strokestown Park, June 24, 25 and 26, with shows at 2pm and 7pm.
Set in 1847, at the height of Ireland's Great Famine, "In the Midst of Plenty" is an original contemporary acoustic folk musical that tells the story of the plot to assassinate Major Denis Mahon, the landlord of the Strokestown estate in County Roscommon. Written by composer-lyricist Amy Day and directed by Anne-Marie O'Sullivan of Enchanted Croi Theatre, "In the Midst of Plenty" amplifies the stories of women living on the estate during the Famine years, and draws from the richness of the archive of the National Famine Museum. The production will take place June 24, 25 and 26 at Strokestown Park. Performance are at 2pm and 7pm each day. This musical is brought to life by a cast of some of Ireland's most talented actors, vocalists, and instrumentalists. The production is made possible by a generous grant from the Roscommon Local Live Performance Programming Scheme and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media.
