In this panel discussion, five artist will share how they express and explore their multi-faceted realities through their creative work. How do they use their creativity to connect, engage and relate to themselves and their environment? How do their identities reflect in their art – and how does art inform their identities?
Featuring:
Seraphina Bridget Louise Taylor
Ennio Blesz
Jamal Hassan
Ashley Adamson
Dovile Lapinskaite
Moderated by Dshamilja Roshani
Since questions of identity never exist in isolation from the broader socio-political context, we will also touch on some structural and systemic questions. How do artists confront privileges, marginalisation and power structures in their work? Who gets to speak for whom? Is (good) art always informed by the artist’s lived realities, or do such ideas limit creative freedom itself.
In this discussion, we will attempt to answer some of these questions, probably bring up a whole lot more and also engage with contributions from the audience.
Please note that we are committed to creating a comfortable space for everybody. Thus, contributions of racist, sexist, classist, ableist, xenophobic, queerphobic, transphobic or any other discriminatory nature will not be permitted.
Entrance is free. Any donations will be shared with the artists.
