Brisbane get ready !! Our time has come !! From US director Jason Axel Summers based on the Music, Art , Life and Crimes of one of Australia's Ultimate Outsider Artists Mr Stuart "Art" Gray or as Oz Music Aficionado"s Fondly recall "Stu Spasm" and I SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD YEARS AGO the Film - the raw life of StuArt Gray !!
Watching the film unfold at a breakneck speed you are immediately drawn in and one could wax lyrical about the amazing archival footage of Stu and Lubricated Goat , the heady days of Sydney's Black Eye Records ,the infamous Andrew Denton Footage , interviews with fellow artists like Tex Perkins , Lachlan McCleod And Mudhoney's Guy Maddison , Steve Turner and Mark Arm or his life in his beloved New York City which coalesce's into the raw power of Stu's new band The Art Gray Noizz Quintet , these all feature throughout but Stu is such a unique character devoid of pretension ( his various life escapades may have had a hand in that ) possessing a wicked dry wit it's hard not to like him .
This may sound like a cliche but this is so much more than your usual Music Documentary fare , this film permeates with character , There's a sadness underlying the madness of events at times but Gray's wealth of knowledge has a hand in that of course , the life he has lived remind you somewhat of Colin Wilson's musings in The Outsider , maybe Stu was born to play this role but this is most assuredly no act !!
We could go on there is so much more to the Stuart Gray Story ,he left Australian shores over 30 years ago and yes he is sadly missed but his legacy on Australian Underground Music Art and Culture live on , and we are so fortunate to have him still with us all things considered and bringing his unique vision of the world to life with his music , art and sculptures !!
To celebrate this very special event we also have 2 Brisbane bands we think Stu would approve of on the night that will feature right after the screening Glan Schneau and Cordell ( Pale Horsey) new outfit Ect Unk , and right off the back of the recent Split Release with Stu's The Art Gray Noizz Quintet Gravel Samwidge !!!
