About this Event
House of Names, an evening-length contemporary ballet reshaping the narratives of women and mythology, will premiere in mid- July at ODC theater. You have the opportunity to get a sneak peek at 460 Gough on June 19, and help us in the next phase of the process.
During our residency at LEVYdance, we worked on several sections of the ballet. Knowing that our live performance will be presented as a streamed event this summer, we questioned: how will those sections feel to a virtual audience?
Watch live performance and the clips we filmed on Saturday, June 19 at 7:30pm, talk to the artists and give feedback. We want your input!House of Names will consist of four original pieces, all focusing on women in biblical and mythological stories: Lot’s Wife, Cassandra, La Llorona and Miriam. Brussel will be exploring these stories with a contemporary eye:
- Lot’s Wife as a modern immigration story;
- Cassandra in the #metoo era,
- La Llorona as a woman haunted by her postpartum psychosis. And Miriam, a prophet and leader.
The ballet delves deeply into these stories, making them new and relevant.
Original music by composer Carla Lucero. Marika Brussel is a contemporary ballet choreographer, working to bring ballet into the 21st century. Visit her website at marikabrussel.com
