Grave-side dedication and wreath-laying ceremony at the historic Westminster Hall & Burying Ground in Baltimore. Restored cemetery plaques will be dedicated, honoring heroes of the Revolution and the War of 1812. For the first time, the patriotic service of David and Elizabeth Poe, grandparents of the author, Edgar Allan Poe, will be shared with the public.
Our program will include convocation, color guard, living history performers & re-enactors, and tour of the burial grounds and catacombs where Poe and Baltimore's illustrious dead are buried. Light reception to follow.
Inside the historic church, guests will tour a life-sized diorama of the meeting between Edgar Allan Poe’s grandparents and the Marquis de Lafayette in 1781 and 1824.
Suggested parking in garage at 221 N. Paca St., one block from Westminster Hall.
Update and redesign of the cemetery plaques at Westminster Hall is made possible through grants, private funding, and program work of these organizations for the Virginia Poe Bicentennial:
