About this Event

One Village Alliance is excited to announce the launch of Black Girls Heal at the 13th Annual "Girls Can Do Anything!" Conference - the Delaware Valley's official International Day of the Girl event!

While GCDA remains diverse and inclusive, Black Girls Heal is a new community focused on the holistic wellness of Black Indigenous Girls of Color. It's a collective, data driven response to lift girls up in the wake of THREE unprecedented "major public health crisis" as defined by the National Centers For Disease Control: Covid-19, gun violence, and most recently – racism. Black Girls Heal is a call to action to use our personal power to heal ourselves, our community, and the world. BGH:

  1. Celebrates the resilience, health, creativity, safety, and healing power & joy of Black girls;
  2. Provides a safe space for Black girls to share, connect and address their unique experiences and needs;
  3. Speaks to the rising state of emergency amid an unprecedented time in history;
  4. Advances advocacy through purpose-driven, girl-led activism;
  5. Supports Indigenous girls and their intergenerational communities at the intersection of gender and economic justice, and strengthens their relationship with self.

We educate, empower and inspire purpose-driven girls by connecting them to mentors, resources and opportunities to turn their dreams into reality. The mission is to ensure girls have the supports they need to be strong and healthy mentally, physically and spiritually.

**Special guest presenters include influential female change agents, community leaders and phenomenal girls whose lives prove that, with the right support, Girls Can Do Anything!

Data Driven Need: Black Girls Heal is a collective response to lift girls up in the wake of THREE unprecedented "major public health crisis" as defined by the CDC: Covid-19, gun violence, and most recently – racism. Black and Brown children have endured a distinctive kind of trauma since the pandemic as many were living in a state of emergency long before March of 2020. Compounding the issue, BIPOC communities have long experienced structural, social, and economic inequity. Yet Black youth are less likely to receive treatment and access to wellness.

Outcome: This project will inspire girls to share, connect and address their specific experiences and needs in a safe space that fosters vulnerability, resilience and strength. Black Girls Heal will provide vital connections, resources, and skills to combat the rising social isolation, academic challenges, suicide rate and mental health crisis, specifically facing pre-teens and teens of Color. Black Girls Heal is a statement of sisterhood affirming the healing power that resides within black girls individually and collectively. No matter our pain, our journey, or our path, we have the power to heal ourselves, heal our relationships, and heal the world.
