Saint Paul United Methodist Church is hosting a “garden party” workday to prepare its grounds for winter and continue transforming its downtown property into a pollinator-friendly oasis. Church members, community volunteers, and certified Master Gardeners will work side-by-side to remove buried landscape fabric and improve soil with compost, cut back perennials and clear organic debris, and plant more than 1,000 spring bulbs (daffodils, tulips, hyacinths). The project began in May with the goal of creating gardens that welcome bees, birds, and butterflies while offering a beautiful green space at one of Lincoln’s busiest intersections. The gardens are part of the church’s “front door” — an expression of hospitality to neighbors and the church’s commitment to care for creation.
Volunteer: Sign up for the September 27 workday. Registered volunteers will enjoy coffee, donuts, bottled water, and a cold lunch. Please register by Tuesday, September 23 to be included in our count.
Donate Plants: Drop off healthy divisions or nursery plants at Saint Paul UMC. Wish-list plants include: 3+ Swamp Milkweeds, 2+ Butterfly Milkweeds, 6+ Salvias, 6+ Tall Phlox (not creeping), 3 Coreopsis, 3 Pink Yarrow, 2 Yellow Yarrow, and 3+ Spiderworts.
