✔️ Workshop description:
This workshop will scrutinize the nuanced soft power methods employed by authoritarian regimes to shape narratives, sway opinions, and bolster their global standing. Distinguished speakers will explore the intricate challenges these tactics pose to democratic principles and international norms. They will also delve into the various dimensions of the PRC's soft power, discussing its impact on diplomatic relations and cultural and academic exchanges. Throughout the workshop, the PRC’s inlfuence on Georgian media and academia will also be analyzed.

More about the speakers:
✔️ Melissa Chan- independent journalist, conducts a study into China's expanding foreign influence, global authoritarianism, and related issues. She has previously partnered with major media giants such as The Washington Post, Time, The Guardian, and others. She was nominated for both a Loeb Award (the highest honour in business journalism) and an Emmy while working for The New York Times. She has an MA in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Politics and a BA from Yale University (USA). In 2012–2013, she was a researcher at Stanford University.
✔️ Nina Kheladze - JRC producer and project coordinator (2017 – present). She also serves as TOK TV's development director. She is a Charter of Journalistic Ethics member who previously served on the Council for three years. She has been a journalist for almost ten years, having worked in both regional and national TV-radio channels. successfully implements numerous media programs in collaboration with European partners using the Journalism Resource Centre as its foundation.
✔️ Ani Kintsurashvili – Senior Researcher, Civic IDEA (2020 – present). She is an alumnus of Tallinn University with a Master’s Degree in International Relations, International Security and Conflict Studies. Ani is mainly working on the issues of China’s political, economic and information influence in Georgia and worldwide. In 2015-2016, she served as an intern at the US Embassy and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. She was awarded a certificate of appreciation for her exemplary dedication, tireless effort and exceptional resourcefulness in support of the US Embassy Regional Security Office. In 2012, she held the position of Vice President of the Outgoing Global Community Development Program at AIESEC Georgia.
✔️ Danil Bekturganov – the President of the “Civil Expertise” Public Foundation. He has acquired an MA in Political Science. He specialized in research and consulting of the following areas: 1. Transparency and accountability: he is a member of the National Council of Stakeholders for the implementation of the EITI from the Civil Society Side. 2. Digital Advocacy: he is a member of the Digital Rights Expert Group and author of numerous academic publications and articles.
✔️ Katerina Prochazkova – analyst at the Sinopsis, a project of the Institute of East Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. She previously worked as an editor of the foreign editorial office of Czech Television and as a correspondent for Czech Radio in Asia. She lived in Asia for about ten years, in Hong Kong, Taipei and Beijing. She studied journalism at the University of Ostrava and the University of Glasgow. She is also a member of the Foreign Correspondent Club and Beijing International Society.
✔️ Salome Svanidze - Head of Civic Integration Programme, Civic IDEA (2021 – present). Salome obtained a Master’s degree in European Union Studies from Tbilisi State University, the Institute for European Union Studies. She was a fellow of the Konrad- Adenauer- Stiftung (KAS). In 2021, she graduated from Tbilisi State University, faculty of law, with honors. She was an “Erasmus+” exchange student at the University of Tuscia, focusing on Public International Law. During her time at university, Salome gained practical experience through an internship at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Department of State Representation to International Courts of Human Rights. Salome leads civic engagement, EU integration and minority inclusion programs at Civic IDEA.
