About this Event

Come out to the Miracle Theatre on Capitol Hill on Saturday afternoon, September 24th, and help support St. Peter's Church by seeing the 1979 Academy Award-winning classic, Breaking Away -- a heart-warming, romantic comedy that many consider to be the greatest cycling movie of all time!
St. Peter's Church on Capitol Hill was founded in 1820. The parish is still striving -- in faith, hope, and love -- to live its mission statement: To be a tangible manifestation of Christ living in the community.
Breaking Away tells the story of Dave and his working-class friends Cyril, Mike and Moocher, who spend their post-high school days in Bloomington, Indiana, sparring with stuck up students from the local university, chasing girls and -- in Dave's case -- becoming obsessed with competitive bicycle racing, specifically the Italian cycling team! [Rated PG. 1 hour and 40 minutes]
Scott Sanger, the organizer of this event, is a proud original member of Peloton de Petrus, St. Peter's coed cycling team. For over 25 years, Scott has used his bicycle as a tool to help raise funds for the organizations and causes he believes in. On October 1st, Peloton de Petrus, led by Fr. Gary Studniewski, will join a group of fellow priests, seminarians, and laypeople from across the Archdiocese of Washington to bike 100 miles from La Plata, Maryland to St. Mary's City and back in the annual Ride for Vocations.
The Miracle Theatre is located on Capitol Hill at 535 8th Street SE, just two blocks from the Eastern Market Metro station on the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines. Paid parking is available in the public parking lot underneath the Southeast Freeway on 8th Street SE between I Street and Virginia Ave., just two blocks from the movie theatre.
Doors open at the Miracle Theatre for general admission seating at 1:30pm. The movie will start at 2:00pm, and end at 3:40pm.
