About this Event
The Cleveland Print Room invites you to Cedar Lee Movie Theater on Sunday, May 19th from 12-3 P.M. for a free screening of Cleveland-based Filmmaker and Photographer Maya Peroune's film, "Black Is?".
Maya Peroune explores the complexities of being black in America through the lens of young adults from various backgrounds and experiences. Discussion of historic Black figures, the American school system, colorism, segregation, beauty standards, and more are at the forefront.
Maya is currently studying Photography and Videography at The School of Visual Arts in New York, continuing her passion for the photographic and cinematic arts, working on runway shoots for NYFW, and having a feature in Vogue.
Following the screening, Peroune will be joined in discussion with multidisciplinary artist Shatara Jordan to discuss the film, Peroune’s current and future projects, and hold a Q&A with the audience. She will hold this time to discuss her practice, future endeavors, and time in New York City and the School of Visual Arts.
The Screening of Black Is? is generously supported by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC) and the Ohio Arts Council (OAC).
