About this Event
Lady Bathurst has invited a number of eligible young ladies and gentleman to stay at Albion Hall, in the hope of finding a suitable match for her only daughter. However, behind the polite conversation and pleasant surroundings lurks many a dark secret and hidden agenda...
Betrothals & Betrayals is a regency-era LARP inspired by the works of Jane Austen and Susanna Clark. It's full of the genre-expected character drama, romantic entanglements, secrets, silliness, sincerity, and supernatural forces.
...What was that last bit again?
Ah, well, it's probably fine.
---
Betrothals & Betrayals plays for 10 to 13 players, most of whom are characters who don't realize that the supernatural not only lurks beneath the surface of their idyllic lives, but sits dangerously close to them in their day-to-day—not yet, at least. No LARP experience is necessary to play, but some amount of roleplay experience is suggested (your tabletop roleplaying game skills will transfer surprisingly easily!) because of how many characters need to take active initiative to move the story along. Wear your regency best, or modern formalwear.
Masks are required for this event unless you are actively eating or drinking, and will be provided if necessary.

Content Warnings:
This game will not contain any of the following: suicide, self-harm, sexual assault, explicit sexual content, or physical torture.
This game contains period and genre-appropriate sexism, cissexism, and heteronormativity. Misogynistic societal standards heavily inform many players' character backstories and the drama those create, but player characters will not generally be expected to treat other player characters, or be treated by other player characters, with severe prejudice "on screen" during play.
Players will need to play either male or female characters, due to the aforementioned period cissexism. Players will be asked ahead of time which gender(s) they are comfortable portraying, and will not be cast outside of those preferences.
Controlling parents.
Possession and mind control.
Christianity: some characters are tied to the church, others are influenced by its expectations, and there are some fantastical elements of it used in play.
Institutionalization: present in backstory only for a non-player character; being cast as related characters can be avoided, but this may be discussed in game.
Romance: most player characters have heterosexual romantic connections to other characters. These crushes, arrangements, and entanglements will be played out on screen, but players aren't expected to be physical with each other in any way.
It isn't possible to list every potential trigger or point of discomfort. If there is any content you are concerned about appearing in this game, please contact me ahead of time (magicalgurll if you're in the Discord, or email [email protected]) to ask.
