The Church commemorates the great Lutheran kantor, J. S. Bach, on July 28. That date falls on a Sunday this year, making it a good time not only to remember Bach but also to give thanks for Zion’s contributions to the music of the Church. At 3:00 PM, the Madison-based group, "Just Bach," will perform in concert at Zion. "Just Bach" brings the music to life in a manner and style with which Bach was familiar. The audience is invited to sing along during the closing chorales – because group singing is therapeutic!
Here’s a brief note on one of the performers, Kristen Knutson Berka:
Noted for her “sparkling, fluid soprano with admirable flexibility” (Opera News), Berka enjoys portraying characters from early music to contemporary musical theatre. Mrs. Berka holds a Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School, with graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music. She is a founding member of the New Milwaukee Consort with whom she sings and plays Baroque guitar.
