Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami under the artistic direction of Eriberto Jimenez, presents the premier of “Aurora’s Wedding”, III act from Sleeping Beauty on Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 p.m. at the Fillmore Miami Beach, 1700 Washington Ave. Miami Beach, Fl. 33139Featuring recently exiled Cuban dancers who defected in Puerto Rico this past March, next to CCBM soloist and corps de ballet. “Aurora’s wedding” shows excerpts from Sleeping Beauty, a ballet in a prologue and three acts with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa. The premiere took place at the Marinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on 1890, and from that year forward The Sleeping Beauty has remained one of the most famous of all ballets. In the story a princess survives a spell of 100-year sleep that is broken by true love, on a celebration of their wedding their friends arrive dressed as characters from her beloved fairytale book. Aurora’s fairy godmothers bring lavish wedding gifts: gold, silver, sapphire, and diamond. After their wedding, they are crowned: they will succeed to the throne and will rule over the kingdom in peace and happiness.
