As a mother of two, I don't have many opportunities to do plain-air. I always pay attention to what's around me and what moves me. And I look, and memorize. I use that together with my reference photos to finish my landscape paintings in my studio.Day 1.
I want to share with artists how to see and avoid seeing too much... The method of "subtraction". We will start by viewing a lot of photos and discussing how to use them. It takes about an hour for the talking and showing. Then I will let the audience choose 3 reference photos and I will demonstrate how to get a palm-size color study using the simplifying method. It will take 15 minutes each. That will conclude our first morning.
Lunch starts at 12 pm and finishes at 1pm.
In the afternoon, each painter will choose a reference and start with a palm-size color study. It takes 30 minutes. Then we will develop a small landscape painting by the end of the day.
Day 2
Painters will bring their own reference photos and we will exchange ideas of how to improve them to produce better-looking landscapes. Meanwhile, we will prepare a larger canvas to use. It takes about 1 hour.
Palm-size color study. 30mins.
Composition and rough outline. 30mins.
Lunch starts at 12 pm and finishes at 1pm.
In the afternoon, we will be busy creating! Hopefully everyone will end up with a masterpiece landscape to bring home!
