The idea of a rose blooming in winter, a symbol of miraculous origins, has found its way into a popular UU hymn chorus: "Come Sing a Song With Me," by Carolyn McDade. It celebrates how our shared experiences nurture hope: "I'll bring you hope when hope is hard to find. I'll bring a song of love and a rose in the wintertime." Following Carolyn McDade's theme, we will consider Brene Brown's definition of hope as an expression of love through a process of discernment, planning, persistence, and belief in our abilities.
