From the Artist:
A Requiem for Love – Soundscape artist statement
A Requiem for Love, written by Calvin Miller, is an incredible poem in which each line musically tells the tale of the death of innocence and of hope that accompanies an enduring and gracious love. Over a three-month period, I endeavored to translate Miller’s written work into an auditory experience. I found inspiration when closely listening to scores such as Hans Zimmer’s Dune, Jóhann Jóhannsson’s Englabörn & Variations, and Daniel Hart’s The Green Knight. Each composer incorporates unique and often indistinguishable sounds that change the listeners’ perception of what a sound score should be, an approach which I attempted to mimic. The intention of my soundscape was to capture the spectrum of emotions and turmoil found in the lines of Miller’s poem, therefore taking my listeners through the story. After composing a score and an extensive editing process, the result is a true requiem for the masses. A Requiem for Love soundscape guides the listener through a complex journey evoking feelings of sorrow, expectancy, and contemplation.
A Requiem for Love, soundscape, 14 minutes 41 seconds, 2024.
