About this Event
Andover Choral Society invites you to an afternoon of radiant and contrasting choral music on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Haverhill, at 15 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill, MA.
This concert features two strikingly different settings of the Magnificat spanning centuries and musical styles.
The program opens with Magnificat by C.P.E Bach, a work full of elegance, energy and expressive depth. Written in the Classical era, Bach's setting combines lyrical beauty with dramatic contrasts and showcases the brilliance of both chorus and soloists.
The second half of the program presents a contemporary jazz-inspired Magnificat by modern composter Christopher Schoennher, offering a vibrant and rhythmic reinterpretation of the traditional text. Infused with jazz harmonies, syncopation, and a sense of joyful spontaneity, this work brings a fresh and exhilarating perspective to a centuries-old canticle.
