Have you ever taken a good look at the Malaysian 100 dollar bill ? It has 2 pictures on it, side by side while most currency dollar bills has just one. One half is the pride of the highest mountain in Malaysian, Mt Kinabalu and you probably conquered it. So what about the other half ? What & where is it ? Why is it sharing equal glory on that 100 dollar bill ?
Considered a most challenging hike, this other half is none other than the famed ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฎ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฐ๐๐ค. To reach there, one has to ride a long heavy wooden boat upstream river and often having to come down and help push the boat in shallow waters. Upon reaching jetty, a 9km long hike awaits that brings you just to Camp 5, the foothill of Mt Api where the Pinnacles resides. A much needed rest over night, the hike next morning will be a whole day affair taking up to 10 or more hours. At just 1200m on the 60 percent mark of Mt Api, the Pinnacles don't sound like that difficult considering you have done many much higher mountains.
This is where it gets tough going, ascend up 1200m at a short distance of 2.4km means the hike is always going to be steep. You literally start off at 45 degrees till it gets steeper to 60 degrees and the last 400m is a 90 degrees up hill workout session with 17 ladders included ! And so, if you managed all that, congrats ! The Pinnacles is a magnificent sight to awe and not one that can be done by just anybody, but you have done it !
Coupled with your Mt Kinabalu achievement you are now in an elite hiking group who can proudly share your story using the Malaysian 100 dollar bill.
