About this Event
This is a self-supported 4 days, 3-night car camping/over-landing trip. We will meet in Jordan Valley and caravan to the camp area at Anderson Crossing. We will camp at the same location for 3 nights.
Anderson Crossing is one of the most remote camping locations in the Owyhee region. Not many people visit this part of Oregon. We want to get people into this remote area of Oregon to appreciate the solitude of the Owyhee. While we are there we will explore and learn about the area, do some monitoring of Wilderness Study Areas for the BLM, and clean up any trash around Anderson Crossing. Dogs not recommended!
About the Area
Anderson Crossing is one of the most remote BLM camp areas in Oregon. This is primitive camping with no pit toilet. 33 miles to the nearest Paved Road. Great open area for enjoys night skies with no light pollution. The area is surrounded by Wilderness Study Areas, which could soon be Wilderness in the near future. This area is one of the largest sage grouse focal areas that encompass this area as well.
What to Expect: High clearance 4WD vehicle w/ a full spare required. Entry is via minimally maintained, rough dirt roads. Off-trail, steep foot excursions that may be warm and strenuous over intermediate level hiking terrain. This is our most remote trip. Dogs are not permitted on this trip.
Note: Weather-related issues could be a challenge. If we have a lot of moisture the week before the trip could be moved or canceled.

Trip Itinerary
Thursday, May 13: Meet in McDermitt at Quinn River Market. At 1 pm Mountain Time/12 pm Pacific Time. We will top off our fuel then head north 15 miles on Highway 95. Then we will drive 33 miles of well-maintained Gravel Roads to Anderson Crossing. We will have a deep water crossing on the way, so we need clearance. I suggest bringing along 3-5 gallons of Gas in a DOT-approved canister since we are so remote.
Friday, May 14: We head out over and explore Antelope Creek Canyon. We will make time to do some wilderness Study area monitoring and clean up any trash found.
Saturday, May 15: We have options we will discuss at camp. This trip is to explore the area and let people see a part of Oregon they don’t normally go to. We will make time to do some wilderness Study area monitoring and clean up any trash found.
Sunday, May 16: Slow morning and enjoy camp. Pack up by noon and start driving back. We will stay together till Jordan Valley or McDermitt depending on route out. We may discuss driving out a different way.
CAMP (Info/location)
