'And Still I Rise' ~ Protesting the Banning of Books with Shelly Steck- Reale

Florida instituted a book ban in 2024, silencing the voices of the likes of Maya Angelou, Marcel Proust, and comedian Amy Pohler, as well as 697 other authors. This ban is intended to silence voices of dissension and whitewash history.
Sculptor and activist Shelly Steck-Reale is fighting back with ART as a vehicle for reflection and conversation. Come see her powerful ceramic sculpture exhibition - 'And Still I Rise'.
We will have a live reading of Maya Angelou's famous (and banned in Florida poem) 'And Still I Rise' by performance artist Stephanie Jackson.
Musical group The Pod Heads will sing, among other things, their song 'Don't Say Gay.'
Join us this Women's History month as we expose how banned books have the greatest impact on silencing the voices of women and minorities.
