Join Duluth poet Anastasia Bamford at Zenith Bookstore for a discussion and reading from their new poetry collection Morphology.In the words of Bamford: "Morphology explores the inner and outer worlds of both my personal journey as a queer non-binary older adult and of others in the queer community. Through a series of portraits, self portraits, and intimate landscape shots and their paired poems this journey is given a voice and a face. It was born from a series of portraits that I took of my friend Kurt preparing for a drag show. As I began to explore my own gender identity, the poems emerged, and the kernel of Morphology began to take shape. Poems are often viewed separately from the visual arts, but for me they are intertwined with the images that they evoke. It is also my hope that I can help to normalize the concept of non-binary persons as not only applying to the younger generation."
Anastasia Bamford is a non-binary poet and photographer from Duluth, MN. They have recently published a book of poems and photographs titled Morphology with a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, and they have two earlier chapbooks, Rejoice and Dogwood Girl. Their work has been included in the anthologies Earth Beneath, Sky Beyond and A Kiss Is Still A Kiss, both by Outrider Press, and in the Duluth Superior Pride Zine 2023 and 2024. Their work is also included in the Freshwater Feral zine published by the Duluth Poetry Chapter of the League of MN Poets, and in the 2024 edition of Agates, published by the League of MN Poets. Anastasia’s influences include the boreal forest, the intricate workings of the human spirit, and silence. They live in a shady house by a creek in Duluth, MN with their dog Amelia and their partner Ole.
