"Late Night Final? An oral history of Sheffield's newspapers since the 1960s"."Late Night Final? An oral history of Sheffield's newspapers since the 1960s". Radio broadcaster Clare Jenkins has been interviewing fellow journalists about their experiences of working for the Sheffield Star & Telegraph over the past 60 years.
Older ones remember a world of busy, noisy, smoke-filled newsrooms with clattering typewriters, lunchtime drinking, Mavis the tea lady, daily columnists, street newspaper sellers… A world of police calls, murders and traffic accidents, weddings and funerals, council meetings and courts, the Battle of Orgreave and the Hillsborough tragedy. A world where local newspapers were at the very heart of their community. Clare Jenkins is a former Radio 4 programme-maker and Woman’s Hour reporter – and Sheffield Newspapers journalist. She’s also co-author, with her husband Stephen McClarence, of On the Knife Edge , an oral history of Sheffield’s Little Mesters"
