About this Event

Fifth iteration of experimental performance series An Ocean of Rainbow Static, featuring sounds by Cole Pulice, Bret Schneider, and Cowboy, along with radical theoretical readings from pax, ripple, and gabe.

Cole Pulice (they/them) is an electroacoustic saxophonist, improviser, and composer based in Oakland, California. Cole’s work blends saxophone and wind synth with live signal processing into a futuristic sound that opens up the surrealist spaces between acoustic and digital worlds, playfully drifting between improvisation, modern composition, and experimentalism to explore themes of gender, emotion and technology.

Bret Schneider (he/him) is a composer, poet, and art critic whose sonic work includes extensive exploration of just intonation and computer-controlled player piano. He creates dense masses of sound, immersing audiences in rich dreamlike oceans of aural possibilities that embody and point the way toward future musical forms.

Cowboy (they/them) plays an abstract and delicate music rooted in folk but not limited by it. With a unique tonal sensibility, an experimental approach to structure, and a soulful, unique voice, they imagine out into the far reaches of feeling and bring back something that is deeply connective and close to home.

pax (they/them) writes toward liberation through a thorough questioning, deconstruction, and queering of the structures that we embody. they use their philosophical training and mystical openness to stretch out beyond the limits of the known and into a multi-dimensional, multi-temporal realm where new ways of being are born.

ripple (they/them) focuses on an examination of power, conflict, and the body to help expand notions of what individuality, connectedness, and collectivity can be. they work to open up modes of relating beyond traditionally accepted forms, modes that enrich both our understanding of ourselves and how we relate to others.

gabe (they/them) likes to think about time, memory, and listening. they are curious about experiences that defy easy explanation, and how they might be used as opportunities to expand our ideas about what can be.
