John Lavery is known to most Irish people as a gifted Impressionist artist who chronicled the Easter Rising and its aftermath and whose wife Hazel, representing Mother Ireland adorned the first Irish pound note. For the Irish community in Edinburgh, this exhibition is especially fascinating. Its subject matter is vast. The locations span the wide world of the jet-set from the 1870s to the 1930s. Lavery followed his patrons with his easel, painting on commission and submitting to international competitions. Please join us in the final week of this important exhibition to honour a master who, as one of the Glasgow Boys is loved in Scotland, but whose enduring legacy is a source of pride in his birthplace in the north of Ireland and equally in the newly formed Republic, where he lived out his final days
