About this Event
In this discussion Professor Patricia MacCormack will introduce key themes from the cosmic worlds of HP Lovecraft. Through film, philosophy, literature, music and occultism, MacCormack will explore how the often problematic racism, sexism and general conservativism of Lovecraft's work has been shattered and reconfigured and his lore embraced by films, theories and magick practices which align on the side of the fabulous creatures and tentacled monsters of Lovecraftian Literature. Lovecraft's legacy of inspiration has queered his original intent to feed the imaginations of the woke, the weird and the wayward in surprising ways. This illustrated discussion will offer many examples of how feeding our fear and embracing the self as outsider, and even as being the monster, has inspired all genres of horror artistry.
Patricia MacCormack is Professor of Continental Philosophy at ARU, Cambridge. She is the author of 8 books including Cinesexuality, The Ahuman Manifesto, Posthuman Ethics and Death Activism as well as numerous articles in the areas of feminism, queer theory, ecocentrism, ethics, philosophy, and horror films. She has appeared on many dvds speaking about European and British horror. She has also practiced Chaos Magick and other occultism for over 30 years.
