An Introduction to Permaculture - Two Day Course
Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 August 2023, 9:30am to 4:30pm
Earthlings Café, Newcastle
Every day we read about the evolving global climate and biodiversity crisis, and for many of us it is really hard to feel that we can influence anything – and if we could, we do not know where to start! The crisis is not as much a challenge to nature, as it is to the human race – nature will restore itself and recover!
So how about we take a look at how nature is so successful;
• What can we learn from her methods of adaptation?
• Are there principles we could establish from her processes and patterns?
• Could we even form a set of ethics to live by from our observation of the world around us?
So this is what PERMACULTURE is all about. Based on a set of ethics and principles and with accompanying design processes and tools, we can re-design our garden, our diet, ourselves, our community, even our world.
This two day course is an introduction to the more extensive 12 day Permaculture Design Course. It will give you a flavour of what permaculture is, and how to start applying elements of it into how you think, live and work.
This introduction course will have an “urban focus” and will include basic elements of permaculture design, including:-
• History of Permaculture
• Ethics and Principles
• Observation – a valuable tool
• Design Processes and Tools
• Food growing – taking any opportunity
• Responses to the climate crisis
