AN INTRODUCTION TO MAINTAINING SEWING MACHINES (NOTTINGHAM)This is a 1 day course delivered by Neil from Coles Sewing Centre, along with Paul Boyd.
SUMMARY:
This day is aimed at technicians who would like to be able to reduce department costs by being able to carry out basic maintenance of sewing machines (including some tasks linked to machine servicing). It might also be suitable for teachers who have no technician and who would like to be able to have a better understanding of how to maintain their machines in order to maximize their performance and quality output.
Participants will learn about common health and safety issues when using a sewing machine along with gaining a better understanding of how the correct use of tension, threads and needles can improve performance.
The day will include each participant stripping down a sewing machine, cleaning it and rebuilding it. Advice will also be given on how to keep machines running by cannibalizing broken machines along with when to consider replacing a machine. The course is relevant to any brand of sewing machine commonly used in schools.
Participants will be asked to bring along a sewing machine from their department to work on which will make the course very personalized for each school. This will also make it easier for delegates to apply what they have learnt when they go back into school. A machine can be made available if bringing a machine is a problem (please mention this when booking and note this is on a first come first served basis and that a particular brand and type of machine can't be guaranteed).
Note this course is a basic introduction and departments will still need a full service programme for their machines but regular maintenance has the potential to reduce these costs significantly along with reducing the frequency this will be required.
