About this Event
This introductory mushroom cultivation workshop will explore the different ways that fungi can be integrated into garden designs to build more resilient and productive growing spaces. Focusing mostly on decomposer fungi the workshop will look include a presentation, some discussion and some hands on work covering the the following:
🍄The basics of mycology: what are fungi and mushrooms and what are their needs?
🍄 The basic steps and concepts of mushroom cultivation, demystifying key terms and equipment needed.
🍄 A demonstration of how to grow oyster mushrooms on straw, in beds, bales of straw or in containers in tunnels
🍄 How to companion plant wine caps or elm oyster mushrooms in vegetable beds or polytunnels
🍄 A demonstration on how to cultivate shiitake and other wood decomposing mushrooms on logs or stumps.
🍄 A discussion of the different uses for spent mushrooms substrate and methods for making mushroom spawn at home.
Participants will leave with a 28 page booklet summarising the content of the workshop as well as a bag of Oyster mushroom spawn. We will have some sheltered space with tea and coffee but will be working outdoors so please bring a rain jacket in case the weather is poor.

We operate on a sliding scale, the standard price for a ticket to this workshop is £27.50. If you are on a low income and cannot afford that there are also concession tickets for £20 and if you would like to support our work and what we do (we are a non profit communty project) you can pay the solidarity price of £35.
