A fine high-level ridge connects these two summits, which afford grand views of upper Glen Nevis.
There are options to return by the seldom-visited huge hanging valley of Coire aโ Mhail on the W side, or the stalkersโ paths above the E-facing corries. In dry weather, it may be possible to ford
the Water of Nevis at Luib Shonnachainแตหฃ between WPs NN179โธโด684โทโด and NN179โถโต684โตยน.
(!) The avalanche risk may well determine which route options to take. Refer to SAIS during the days preceding this event.
Start from the Upper Falls CP, NN167691. Follow the path E through the gorge on the N side of the Water of Nevis, and cross it on the Wire Bridge at NN177684. Cross the Allt Coire a' Mhร il below its huge waterfall and follow the somewhat eroded stalkersโ path S up Coire Chadha Chaoruinn until it emerges, with a pronounced elbow, on to a spur on the NW ridge of An Gearanach. Follow the ridge up to the summit. A narrow rocky ridge, with some minor scrambles connects this summit to
the next, An Garbhanach.
* Continue S down to a col, 857mแตหฃ, and descend W into Coire aโ Mhail.
There are stalkersโ pathsแตหฃ, but none is particularly useful. One leads N along the foot of the Wfacing escarpment, then returns up to the ridge N of the summit of An Gearanach. Another turns S, heading towards the head of the corrie. A convenient route explores the length of the corrie heading N on a descending traverse. Avoiding crags, aim to reach the spur of Cnoc Reamharแตหฃ at about 550m alt., WP NN181โนยน676โถโท. Climb E up the spur to reach the outward route at the elbow on the stalkersโ path and return to the start.
*An alternative return heads back along the outward route. This may be varied by diverting onto an E-going stalkersโs path, which descends and traverses the E aspects of the hill before returning
to the outward route at the elbow.
