About this Event
Please join us for this annual holiday series: Mad Dogs and Englishmen who ventured, to one degree or another, into the midday sun.
This year, Wilton Morley leads us in an examination of the most lethal spy ring in history, The Cambridge Spies. Recruited in the 1930's by the KGB when undergraduates at Trinity College, Cambridge, Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean and Anthony Blunt rose through the ranks of MI5 and MI6 whilst all the time passing literally thousands of sensitive documents to the Russians over two decades.
When finally exposed, their treachery had a devastating effect on the world's intelligence services. The CIA would never fully trust the FBI again and MI5 would never trusted MI6 again. The so- called "Special Relationship" forged by Churchill and Roosevelt during World War Two was irreparably damaged to this day. Three of them escaped to the Soviet Union. One of them became a trusted confidant of Queen Elizabeth and received a Knighthood, working inside Buckingham Palace for over twenty years. And what's more....she knew.
