About this Event

An Evening with the Bruntletts Public Event hosted by the City of Burnaby at Christine Sinclair Community Centre, 3702 Kensington Ave, Burnaby, BC V5B 4Z6. (Not at Nikkei Centre)

‬Celebrated authors, advocates, and former Vancouverites, Melissa and Chris Bruntlett, return to Canada to share their story of relocating their young family to the Dutch city of Delft, and how becoming Dutch citizens reshaped their lives. In their book Curbing Traffic: The Human Case for Fewer Cars in Our Lives, they chronicle what it means to trade a car-centric lifestyle for a people-first, cycle-friendly city.

Through their first-hand experiences, the Bruntletts reveal how thoughtful urban design impacts far more than mobility. It shapes our emotional wellbeing, social connections, and freedom at every age. From quieter streets that ease stress, to neighbourhoods where children and elders can move independently, their work highlights why the built environment is about more than getting from A to B - it’s about creating happier, healthier communities.

Why Attend?

  • Discover inspiring global examples of people-first urban design
  • Learn how cycling- and transit-friendly cities improve quality of life
  • Connect with like-minded advocates, planners, and community builders
  • Enjoy an evening of good conversation, desserts, and refreshments

Join us for this inspiring evening and reimagine what Metro Vancouver could look like when we design our cities around people, not cars.-- ** Signed copies of Melissa and Chris Bruntlett's books are available to purchase as an add on to your ticket registration. ** --
