About this Event
We are delighted to welcome authors Russ Williams and Sam K. Horton to discuss their latest folklore-inspired books, Where the Folk and Gorse.
Russ Williams was raised on Wales’s stories: stories of witches and giants and heroic kings, dragons and mad doctors, ghostly women, giant beaver monsters, vampire furniture and pirate-fighting monks. In Where the Folk, Russ travels in search of places associated with Wales’s legends, folklore and urban myths. Exploring the origins behind the myths, he talks to experts and storytellers to find out how they might have come about, and what they tell us about Wales past and present.
Meanwhile, Sam K. Horton's novel, Gorse, is a poignant and lyrical examination of faith, love and grief. The Bear and the Nightingale meets Poldark in this luscious dark fantasy debut, inspired by Cornish folklore. Gorse asks what do we choose to believe, and how does that shape who we are?
With both authors discussing folklore in both fact and fiction, this is the perfect event to tap into the wonderful weirdness of the season, as we descend further into the delicious depths of autumn.
Russ Williams grew up in Caernarfon in North Wales and now lives in Cardiff. He runs two blogs, ‘Brawd Autistico’, which documents his life with an autistic brother, and ‘Where the Folk’, about Welsh folklore and urban myths.
Sam K. Horton lives above the moor in Cornwall, drawing on its wild landscape, wide skies and windblown folklore for his work. He trained as a costume designer before moving into visual art. It was during his last creative project that he discovered his talent for writing. Gorse is his debut novel.
