Roger Street Friedman is a modern Americana singer-songwriter who believes that music’s greatest power is its ability to bring people together. Over the course of four critically acclaimed albums, he’s built a devoted following by writing songs that speak honestly to the shared human experience — love and loss, struggle and resilience, outrage and hope — with a warmth and depth that recall the storytellers of the ’60s and ’70s. His fifth and latest album, Long Shadows, finds him reflecting on the world around us — from deeply personal moments to sweeping social currents — and distilling them into songs that feel both intimate and universal.
“In many ways, I feel like a folk singer,” Friedman says. “I grew up with protest music playing in the house — Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Peter, Paul and Mary — but a lot of what I write is about my own life, my relationships, and the world I see. My goal is never to lecture, but to tell stories that evoke feelings and spark connection.”
Friedman’s sound is a rich blend of folk, rock, blues, and country — drawing inspiration from artists like Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, and Neil Young — and his performances are known for their emotional honesty and warmth. His live shows are as memorable as his records: one fan put it best, saying, “Roger Street Friedman’s incredible songs, coupled with his sincere charm and wonderful storytelling, gave the audience all the feels — and everyone went home uplifted.”
With a seasoned band of top-flight musicians and a gift for writing songs that linger long after the last note fades, Friedman has become one of Americana’s most compelling voices. His music doesn’t seek to change hearts and minds so much as it invites listeners to find common ground — and, in the process, reminds us of our shared humanity.
