A rare chance to hear an elusive cult icon of the folk revival. Jim Eldon will be coaxed out from in front of Midsummer Murders to share an evening of songs, tales and fiddle tunes with his friend and collaborator Mossy Christian. A prolific collector in the field, Jim’s repertoire of traditional material includes songs from the fishermen of Flamborough, songs and music from the travelling people, and you might even hear some family carols from the Yorkshire Wolds, from Billy Harrison of Millington. Jim was awarded the EFDSS Gold Badge in 2022.
Then there’s Jim’s own compositions; observant, punk, and devastatingly witty. Songs like There’s a Puffin in my Pint, A Letter from Gengis Kahn, and One Door Closes (Another Traps Your Fingers) saw Jim enjoying regular radio play from Andy Kershaw and John Peel.
Although somewhat younger than his collaborator, Mossy Christian is quickly building a reputation as an entertaining and well-rounded performer. Described in a recent review as ‘a true new custodian of the tradition’, the pairing of these two good friends makes for a well matched evening.
An intimate, informal, and unpredictable evening in good company with two legends in their own lunchtime.
Tickets available through eventbrite at £12.50 plus booking fee or £15 on the door.
