An Evening with Local Filipino Authors and Historians

Come join us at Loyalty Bookstore for a special event celebrating local Filipino writing and history! Learn about the rich history of DC Filipino-Americans and listen to readings by Filipino authors and poets. Don't miss out on this gathering to kick off Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. See you there!

Featuring:

Regie Cabico: A winner of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam and has won top prizes in three National Poetry Slams. Regie Cabico’s work appears in more than thirty anthologies including The Spoken Word Revolution (Sourcebooks, 2003); Chorus & The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry (Thunder’s Mouth Press, 1999); and Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Café (Henry Holt and Company, 1994).

Erwin Tiongson: Professor of the Practice and Deputy Director of the Global Human Development Program at Georgetown University. Author of Philippine-American Heritage in Washington, D.C. which features stories on major landmarks found in Washington, D.C. with some form of presence, influence, and/or historical ties between notable Filipinos and Americans.

Gem Daus: Award-winning adjunct faculty member of the University of Maryland Asian American Studies Program. He teaches Filipino American History and Biography, and has also taught Asian American Health and Asian American Sexualities.

Eva Quinones Tennat: author of Pain of the Littlest Finger, which explores three generations of Filipino-American characters after World War II.

Moderated by Reg Ledesma (they/them). Graduate of Duke University's Master of Public Policy program and University of Maryland's Asian American Studies program.
