In the lead up to the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, Kai Sakakibara was one of the top BMX racers in the world. He then suffered a traumatic brain injury in an accident during the final stages of qualifying before being able to realise his Olympic dream.
He was the first to celebrate his sister Saya winning Gold for Australia at Paris 2024 in the sport that nearly took his life.
