About this Event
Who owns the grocery stores you shop at? Does it matter? Grocery stores might just be THE most powerful institutions shaping the future of food, and yet most of these stores are privately-owned -- leaving their future in the hands of a single individual or company. The choices they make affect everything from the products we have access to, to the prices we pay, and even the values that guide these stores.
This talk celebrates and inspires a radical alternative - the 'cooperative'. For over 200 years, cooperatives around the world have embedded democratic principles into the economy by placing the stewardship of businesses and services into the hands of the people who use them - YOU!
There are 325 community-owned grocery stores across the country, and Hillsboro is about to join the movement. Why should you get involved? And how do we maintain momentum and success?
