Join us for an evening with Dr. Cornel West, in conversation with Dr. Daymond Glenn, where they will discuss how Black Prophetic Fire and the Black Prophetic Imagination can bring Hope, Possibility, and Spiritual Transformation to all people who have been shaped by life on the margins and who seek to create a Beloved Community.
The Cultural Soul Project is a new Church in Portland, Oregon, and our ministry exists at the intersection of race, faith, hip-hop, and justice. We sincerely hope you can join us to receive a Prophetic Word from the incomparable Dr. Cornel West.
The Cultural Soul Project is proud to host our ministry on the campus of Reedwood Friends Church. Seating for this event is on a first come, first served basis. Doors open at 6:00pm, and the event starts at 7:00pm.
Speaker Biographies:
Dr. Cornel West and Black Prophetic Fire:
Dr. Cornel West, affectionately known to many as Brother West, is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary. Dr. West teaches on the works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, as well as courses in Philosophy of Religion, African-American Critical Thought, and a wide range of subjects – including but by no means limited to, the classics, philosophy, politics, cultural theory, literature, and music. He has a passion to communicate to a vast variety of publics in order to keep alive the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. – a legacy of telling the truth and bearing witness to love and justice.
Dr. West is the former Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy at Harvard University and Professor Emeritus at Princeton University. Cornel West graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University in three years and obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy at Princeton.
Dr. West has written 20 books and has edited 13. He is best known for his classics, Race Matters and Democracy Matters, and for his memoir, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud. His most recent book, Black Prophetic Fire, offers an unflinching look at nineteenth and twentieth – century African American leaders and their visionary legacies.

Dr. Daymond Glenn and the Black Prophetic Imagination:
Dr. Daymond Glenn is the Founder and Senior Pastor of The Cultural Soul Project church in Portland, Oregon where his ministry exists at the intersection of race, faith, hip-hop, and justice. The Cultural Soul Project is rooted in three major pillars, one of which being the Black Prophetic Imagination - this means we are intentional about putting Blackness, the historical development of the Black Church, Black Liberation Theology, and Hip-Hop Culture in a symbiotic relationship to imagine a possibility for ministry, community, and cultural work for all People who have been shaped by life on the margins.
Before founding The Cultural Soul Project, Dr. Glenn held senior level administrative and faculty positions at various colleges and universities, and some of those positions included: Vice President of Student Affairs, Chief Diversity Officer, Tenure Track Professor, and Faculty Administrator. As a Professor, Dr. Glenn has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses focusing on urban education, deconstructing multicultural education, race and education on academic achievement, educational theory and philosophy, and critical hip-hop studies.
Dr. Glenn is the author of Critical Condition: Black Males and Multiculturalism in Higher Education, and he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Portland State University, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lewis & Clark College, and a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Lewis & Clark College.
