About this Event

Jointo celebrate the publication of his novel Sister Wake – an epic fantasy exploration of Irish mythology, rebel history, and giant monsters that Lev Grossman called 'a gorgeous work of power and magic.'From ACOTAR and Game of Thrones to Godkiller and Nettle & Bone, Celtic mythology has never been so popular as an inspiration to beloved fantasy worlds. But how many really delve beneath the surface, and what can aspiring authors and fantasists learn from them in order to bring not just Celtic myth, but also culture, language and history to their writing? Join award-winning authors Dave Rudden (Doctor Who, Knights of the Borrowed Dark) and Prof. Alex Dawson (Welcome to White Hart) in a lively discussion and Q & A on the use of Celtic myth and culture in both the fantasy canon and their own work. Packed full of readings, publishing tips, and craft insight, this event is perfect for would-be writers and fantasy fans alike.About Sister Wake:A proud culture oppressed for centuries. An island overrun by bestial gods. And a girl with the power to raise the fallen... For three hundred years the wild island of Croí has been subject to the Empire of the Answering. Clans have been subjugated, their language outlawed, their religion reduced to the whisper of fugitive priests. Until Croí's prayers are answered. The Gods return. Feral and majestic, they stride the land as colossi, throwing the Empire into chaos. The dispossessed and the vengeful struggle for power. A ruthless priestess rallies the faithful, offering a simple choice - believe, or die - even as the empire's Queen makes the first moves in a long and dangerous game. But for all their machinations, one woman will decide the fate of them all . . . Sister Wake, unwilling saint of the Goddess of Death.Dave Rudden is the author of the award-winning Knights of the Borrowed Dark trilogy as well as several works in the Doctor Who universe.
