Malaprop's Bookstore / Café, in collaboration with Citizen Vinyl and Blue Ridge Public Radio, presents An Evening with Dale Neal + Special Guest Sheila Kay Adams. His short stories and essays have appeared in *Our State, Smoky Mountain Living, North Carolina Literary Review, Carolina Quarterly*, and elsewhere. A seventh-generation ballad singer, storyteller and musician, Sheila Kay Adams was born and raised in the Sodom Laurel community of Madison County, an area renowned for its unbroken tradition of unaccompanied ballad singing dating back to the early Scottish, Scots-Irish, and English settlers in the mid-17th century. In 2013, she received the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship Award, which recognizes traditional artists for artistic excellence and their efforts to preserve American culture for future generations. In 2016, she received the North Carolina Heritage Award.
