On Friday 10th May 2024 the Pavilion Theatre, Bournemouth plays host to “An Evening With Chris Billam-Smith”, where sports fans will hear the backstory from the Bournemouth man who has held the WBO cruiserweight world title, since winning a majority decision against Lawrence Okolie at his beloved Dean Court in May 2023!After winning his first nine fights Chris suffered the only defeat of his career against Richard Riakporhe in a controversial split decision in 2019. Since then, his career has gone from strength to strength, with ten wins on the bounce, including his most recent world title defence against Mateusz Masternak at the Bournemouth International Centre.
All roads lead now to a rematch with Riakporhe early in the summer where Chris will look to exact revenge against his British rival with the world title on the line. This is the chance to hear the fight previewed with the man himself as he takes a night off from the rigours of training camp, to spend an evening with the fans, who have been so amazing in their support for the man known as “The Gentleman” throughout his career.
A local hero, Chris will share anecdotes from his amazing career so far, which includes 13 knockouts in his 19 victories to date. During the first half of the evening, guests will hear about Chris’s early life growing up in Bournemouth, his fledgling career as a teenage amateur, and all the trials and tribulations along the road to stardom, with plenty of juicy stories you won’t hear anywhere else! After the break, the floor will be thrown open to the audience for a Q&A with the man who could yet become a multi-belt world champion!
There will also be a charity memorabilia auction where boxing fans can snap up a bargain whilst also supporting the event’s chosen charity, Cure Leukaemia.
