An intimate evening with Beth Bombara and Neil Salsich. Many of you have watched Beth in the Venue and Neil on 2nd Street but this is a very special event in a Listening Room experience.
Beth Bombara’s last album, Evergreen, was well-received by fans and media alike. “The likes of Aimee Mann and Jewel are fair comparisons,” noted the L.A. Weekly, “every tone is tinged with emotion, nothing is wasted.”
With It All Goes Up, Bombara has risen to a new level and let some light in. “There's more light, more hope in this record,” she says, “and it feels more positive sonically, as well.” These songs were written during the chaos of the past couple years, and the time found Bombara looking for silver linings, writing to keep herself positive and keep her mind open and fresh. She continues, “During the pandemic I reconnected with an old guitar that had been collecting dust in my closet for many years. It’s a classical guitar, and I wrote a lot of the songs for this record on it, which brought something different to them and took the tone of the record in a new direction.” Bombara’s songwriting certainly did take a turn – upwards, in more ways than one.
Neil Salsich is a St. Louis-based guitarist, singer, songwriter and teacher. His musical journey began at age six when he learned how to operate his dad’s stereo so he could listen to “Ramblin’ Man” on repeat. He was born and raised in South St. Louis and remembers clearly the first time he performed live (at Hartford Coffee Company) at the age of 16. After returning from college in 2012 he formed a band with aspirations of maybe playing around a bit, calling themselves Acoustics Anonymous. Four years later they’ve traversed the country a handful of times, changed their name to The Mighty Pines, and even sold out The Old Rock House in St. Louis. He specializes in country, folk, and bluegrass but incorporates many elements of funk, soul, and jazz into his singing and playing. When he’s not on the open road with his band, he’s often found crooning at restaurants, cafes, and wine bars around town. Neil is passionate about the St. Louis music scene and never dreamed he’d meet so many world class players and songwriters in his city. He recently experienced a successful run on TV’s The Voice.
