About this Event
Join us for a thought-provoking evening with author, Aaron Kupchik, as he discusses his new book Suspended Education. Joining him will be Dr. Yasser Payne, author of Murdertown, USA and professor of sociology at the University of Delaware.
Every year, millions of students are suspended, disproportionately harming Black students and deepening racial inequities in education. Kupchik’s groundbreaking research uncovers how suspensions, originally designed to exclude rather than reform, became a tool for segregation after Brown v. Board of Education. Through compelling analysis and real-world case studies, he exposes the roots of this broken system and makes a powerful case for ending exclusionary punishments in schools.
