Laurel Bestock is a professor of Egyptology and Archaeology at Brown University. Currently directing excavations at the site of Abydos, where the first kings of Egypt built the earliest pharaonic monuments hundreds of years before the pyramids, she has also worked extensively in Sudan, where she investigated cultural interactions in an ancient military outpost. Beyond excavation, her interests include ancient Egyptian art, as well as archaeological methodology and digital recording. In this talk she will discuss what it means to be an archaeologist of Egypt, what archaeologists do and why. Using examples from her own excavations, she will introduce us to how discoveries can shift our understanding of the past, as well as demonstrating why it's so darn fun to be an archaeologist.Registration Required and opens up January 17 at 10AM
