We'd love you to be there:The Manchester Carols
An evening of Christmas music and carols
5.00pm, Saturday 13th December 2025
All Saints’ Church, Hertford
The Manchester Carols (a collaborative work by composer Sasha Johnson Manning and Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy) is a collection of carols, linked by narration, which modernises the Christmas story. Most of the carols use traditional forms – verses and a chorus, repeated lists, or a call and response motif – which make them very accessible and enjoyable on a first listening. Sasha Johnson Manning has a gift for melody; Carol Ann Duffy has created poetry that brings the meaning of the carols right up to date and the narration tells the Christmas story in a way that was very relevant to today’s world.
The carols were written in Manchester in 2007 and first performed by children from different Manchester schools. We are delighted to bring this re-telling of the Christmas story to Hertford. The second half of the concert will include favourite carols for choir and audience.
