Join Emancipation Theater in collaboration with Theatre Artibus as they present a staged reading of Jeff Campbell's new play "In The Pocket: The Ballad of Bobby Trombone."
"In the Pocket" is a melodious meditation on Jazz history in Denver's Five Points neighborhood - storytelling, live music, and tap dance interweave in the imagined lobby of the historic Rossonian, a famous hotel where Black Jazz legends (Duke Ellington, Dinah Washington to name a few) slept while playing gigs in Denver, prohibited from staying at the same hotels where they were hired to perform for white-only audiences.
The staged reading will be followed by a Q and A with the playwright Jeff Campell.
The evening ends with a set by Denver jazz legend Danette Hollowell and the Queen City Quintet
The event is FREE- RSVPs required. Donations are welcome to help nurture the play into full production in Feb 2023.
