🎤 Join us for An Afternoon with Music and Conversation as renowned country music historian Bill Malone and Bobbie Malone share stories and melodies that celebrate the history and heart of Texas country music with a focus on the songwriting career of Cindy Walker.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Bill and Bobbie Malone have been co-conspirators in writing and performing for almost fifty years. Bill, a former Tulane University history professor, wrote Country Music USA – the original, groundbreaking work in country music studies – in 1968. He has defined the field of country music history in the years since and was featured in Ken Burns' PBS documentary, Country Music. Bill's performing career began in Austin during the 1960s folk revival at the fabled Threadgill's Tavern. Bobbie, a renowned writer, artist and historian herself, has written a myriad of local history books and spent 25 years working with the Wisconsin Historical Society. They will be joined in performance by historian, editor, and artist Kent Calder.
Together, the Malones have hosted a longstanding radio program on Madison, Wisconsin's WORT-FM and published biographical books about country music stars. Their most recent book – Riders in the Sky: Romancing the West with Music and Humor – follows the journey of the band who revived the American tradition of the singing cowboy.
