About this Event

Friends of Birmingham Archives & Heritage (FoBAH) and Archives & Collections at the Library of Birmingham, are delighted to welcome our guest speaker this year for the Chris Upton Memorial Lecture. Jonathan Reinarz is Professor of the History of Medicine and Director of The History of Medicine Unit at the University of Birmingham. He has published extensively on the history and culture of medicine and hospitals.

Over the last few years, Professor Reinarz has been working on the history of accidents, developing a new angle to combine his research into automobile accidents with his past work on drowning, and burns and scalds. Looking at the broad concept of accidents as part of our everyday history, it connects to Chris's fascination with the history of the back-to-backs and the Birmingham Accident Hospital, an important institution in the political and medical history of Birmingham and beyond.

The lecture will begin at 5.30pm, doors will be open from 5pm, and we'll look forward to seeing you there!
