About this Event
As part of the UK Australia Season, join the National Museum of Australia and Sage Appliances for a lively discussion between artists, curators and experts as they uncover an Aboriginal Culinary Journey - a project that shares Australia’s 65,000 years of Indigenous culture in a modern-day context.
Sixteen years ago Australian Aboriginal designer and film-maker Alison Page and director of Design and Innovation at Sage Appliances, Richard Hoare met at a wedding in Western Australia. They discovered a shared vision for story-telling and design.
They had a dream to create products that invite global audiences to engage with the narratives of Australian Aboriginal mark-making. They imagined a collection of everyday objects wrapped in ancestral symbols and story.
In 2019 Alison and Richard’s vision became a reality – production of the Sage Appliances Art Series, an Aboriginal Culinary Journey began.
Sage Appliances worked on Country with four artists, Yalti Napangati, Yukultji (Nolia) Napangati, Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri and Lucy Simpson, whose direct work onto the products has been replicated across the series.
Working with the National Museum of Australia, these objects have been placed within an exhibition that provides historical context to Aboriginal design on contemporary tools for living.
an Aboriginal Culinary Journey the exhibition will be on display at Australia House from Wednesday 28 September.
